Elias was setting on the patio enjoying a hot dog when his dad joined him.
“I know you said you didn’t want a party for your birthday, but you know it is not too late to change your mind. Most people your age enjoys the big parties.”
“I just don’t feel like a party, Dad.”
“Is something wrong? You know you can talk to me if you need to.”
Elias shook his head. “Nothing is wrong. I promise. I just feel like a quiet night at home with my family and maybe Emily.
Elias had known Emily since they were kids. She was Siobhan’s best friend. They had just recently started dating.
“If that is how you want to spend your birthday, then it is how we will spend it. I just want you to be happy, son.”
Elias couldn’t help smiling. “I know, Dad. I am happy.”
While Jackson and Elias were talking, Kristi made his birthday cake. Since he said he just wanted a small group of family and Emily over, she opted for a small chocolate cake.
They had a surprise guest that made Elias’s birthday perfect. His grandpop showed up for a visit. It was the first time anybody had seen him since Tianna’s memorial service.
The small party itself was nice. Siobhan, Zayne and Eric were all there. Emily and Ashley both came over also. They lit a bonfire in the back yard and just hung out.
It was a nice quiet birthday which was exactly what Elias had wanted.
